Course One
The Cinematographer works closely with the Director to capture the essence of the story through the lens as he/she artistically lights the actors and their world creating a captivating visual story for the audience.
Being a Cinematographer takes a true artistic craftsperson. A Cinematographer must have creative insight as well as the skills necessary to both interpret the Director’s vision, and communicate the Cinematographer’s approach to realizing this vision to the technical crews of the camera, lighting and grip departments.
In Course one of the Cinematographer series, we will help you realize these artistic and creative skills. Focusing on the fundamentals of lighting and framing theory, we will explore creative scene set ups with a basic camera, lighting, and grip equipment package.
Course One is a two, twelve hour day intensive introduction to the role of the Cinematographer on set where students learn coverage, framing, and lighting strategies rotating through crew positions while doing setups with the instructor in the role of Cinematographer. Time will be spent with instruction on proper use and safety of all equipment, and in discussions of each set up and the choices made while viewing the result of our work with the on set monitor.

Course Two
Of the many aspects of being a Cinematographer, working with your crew is crucial. You must get across to your crew what the scene dictates and how they need to complete the task at hand.
In the second Cinematography course, students will be on location as each student rotates into the role of Cinematographer for their own set up as their fellow classmates crew for them. The instructor will take on the role of the director, as he teaches setting the scene requirements for the student Cinematographer to fulfill.
Further discussions and adjustments of each setup will display the control and artistry the Cinematographer has available with the equipment on set.
Students will be using

Course Three
Take everything you’ve learned from courses One and Two and put them into practice in the final course of the series as you get hands-on experience making a short film.
Course three is a two-and-a-half day course. Students will be meeting at the location on the Friday night before their Saturday class. Students will have a location scouting and technical meeting with their Cinematographer Instructor as well as meet with the Director of the project and discuss the weekend’s shoot.
On the Saturday of the course/shoot, as well as working as the Director of Photography, students will rotate into the various production positions so that they have hands-on experience and a deep understanding of how they will work with their future film crews.
After shooting the project, the Director and Cinematographer Instructor will discuss with the class how the Cinematographer on a project works with the Editor each day.
Each student will work an average of ten (10) to twelve (12) hours per day.
The prerequisite for Course Three is Cinematography Course One and Cinematography Course Two.
Upon completion of Course Three of the two-day intensive Cinematography course, students receive the following:

Cinematography One-Week Course
The Cinematographer One-Week course is similar to the Cinematographer weekend series except it is taught over a five (5) day period, Monday - Friday. This is an intensive immersion course where students will work a minimum of ten (10) hours per day as they study the fine art of using a camera and lighting a set.
The cost of the One-Week Cinematography course is $1,150.00
