Eight Day Intensive Movie making Course
Our eight-day intensive movie making course is geared toward those who want to learn how to make a movie. It is an immersion class working on location on a fully functioning movie set where students will get hands-on experience by actually making a short film.
On the first day, you will receive the script for a short film, read it, and discuss it with the faculty director who will have a lecture on casting for your movie. The faculty director will teach you what to look for in the actors you choose for each specific role. Then you will speak with an actual Hollywood casting director who will explain the detailed process of what a real casting session is and what is expected from the director and producer of a film. Finally, we will have real working actors show up for the casting session for the film project. They will audition for you and then we will collaborate on who the best person(s) for each part is and hire them.
On the second day, you will attend a series of lectures including; but not limited to: learning and understanding how to work with actors and what the different crew positions are and how each one is vital to making a movie. Students in the Director tract will work with the faculty Director and discuss important topics such as mood of the film, camera angles and, getting the performance from your actors. Learn the differences between shots.
Students in the Producer tract will discuss budgeting and scheduling. You will discuss contracts and why they are vital to your production. You will discuss film insurance why it is needed and what is covered. You will learn what each member of the crew works on.
You will have a lecture on Cinematography and learn how he/she creates the mood for the film through all technical aspects of the camera and gear. You will discuss the “time is money” aspect of filmmaking and work on storyboarding your shots so that you have a clear understanding of what you want to see on film. You will discuss movie budgeting and scheduling. Planning is crucial, you will learn how to break down a script and work on creating an actual shot list.
The third day, we will be working on location with the actors shooting the short film.
Fourth, fifth, and sixth day we will be working on location.
You will begin the day by watching the previous days’ footage. Discuss what was shot and plan for the current days’ scenes. You will then resume shooting the short film.
On the seventh day you will return to the classroom and watch your footage from the sixth day. You will have a lecture on what was shot and what is expected next. You will watch your footage and discuss the editing process as you watch the editor work on your movie in Final Cut Pro.
On the eighth day, you will discuss music, watch as the composer lays a music track over the movie you worked on. Watch as the artwork is created for your movie poster one-sheet.
You will then learn about distribution, how to find it, theatrical releases as opposed to direct-to-video, domestic and international distribution, what deals to make and not to make.
We offer three tracts within the program, the Director, the Producer, and the Cinematographer. You get to choose which one is your passion and then your studies will focus on that medium.
